A shining light of vegan options in a sparsely-veggie land, Middle Way cafe is a haven for anyone looking to secure a hearty breakfast or lunch. Their aptly named Avalanche sandwich, a delightful heap of portobellos, avocado, green bell pepper, alfalfa sprouts, lettuce and tomato atop vegan jalapeno cream cheese-slathered rye is sure to please a discerning diner. In addition to stellar ‘wiches, pancakes and burgers, Middle Way Cafe also creates plenty of vegan baked goods, with the selection varying daily.

A combination cafe, food co-op and natural grocery store, Organic Oasis is your one-stop shop for eating and feeling good. There are plenty of vegan items on their respectably-sized menu, standouts include the Vegan Supreme Pizza, High Protein Bowl and Vegan Quesadilla.

Vegan pizza lovers can get their fix at Fat Ptarmigan, where Daiya cheese and a wood-fired vegan crust have found many fans. Hungry guests can customize the toppings for a little extra, or make any pie vegan by subbing with Daiya. By far the best pizza in Alaska (and probably one of the few places to get a wood-fired pie)!

Veganize and repeat! This homely, twin-peaks-esque cafe serves up plenty of vegan meals, including tofu scramble, Veggie Bypass, and Nuevo Huevos. Breakfast is their specialty, be prepared to wait a while for a table if you didn’t have the foresight to make a reservation (which can easily be done online via their website).

Asian-inspired fare and courteous service mesh together perfectly at Ginger, where plenty of vegan options exist. Many of the entrees can be made vegan-to-order, though the vegan curry, mango-teriyaki Alaskan tofu and portabella black bean burger are all already vegan. Large portions and Alaskan hospitality attract repeat diners throughout the year!

Fans of the panoramic restaurant adore the vegan nachos, veggie curry and spicy peanut noodles. Don’t skip dessert: their cashew dream cake is worth the stomach real estate!

Indian food has always been traditionally vegan friendly, and the menu at Bombay Deluxe reflects that ethos — especially considering they provide a 100% vegan menu! Look for the leaves! This funky barstaurant has an upscale cafeteria vibe and the rare choice of Daiya-cheese and housemade cashew parm-topped pizzas. Though pickings are slim, the pizzas make it a solid option among other vegan-starved venues. If all else fails, drink your woes away with one of their sustainably made craft beers.
