The food menu expands beyond the typical breakfast foods. There are sweet and savory items and a newly added dinner menu. Some items are of the standard variety (croissant sandwich with scrambled eggs, cheddar, and maple bacon), but there’s no shortage of more adventurous foods (like the Arepa Benny – with coffee-rubbed beef, grilled tomatoes, and a salsa verde hollandaise). This shop has a livelier atmosphere than many, which might be better suited for socializing than working/studying, depending on how busy the shop is.

Grouchy John’s is a true local favorite. The coffee menu is quite diverse, offering drip coffee, espresso drinks, nitro cold brew, and a variety of other drinks. Try the Curious George, a specialty beverage containing honey, banana, coffee, and milk. Their iced drinks are a welcome treat, especially in the warm Summer months. The food menu is diverse as well. Oatmeal, bagel sandwiches, and muffins cover the more typical cafe items, but there are also delicious wraps and an array of fresh smoothies.
Aside from great coffee, Grouchy John’s stands out for its ambiance and mobility. The atmosphere is geeky and fun. The walls are adorned with local art, much of which is for sale. Often, this art centers around Star Wars fandom and other realms of nerdery, generating a lighthearted mood. The front room behaves like a typical coffee shop, featuring standard tables and couches. A coffee oasis in the strip mall/industrial wasteland just east of McCarran Airport, Sunrise Coffee has a lot to offer. They are very proud of the skill of their baristas and offer a variety of coffee-based drinks, from traditional drip coffees and pour offers to many varieties of handmade lattes. The roast their own beans that are sourced from farming co-ops around the world.
This inviting space, while known for good coffee, is also very well liked for its food. They have the usual fare – pastries (bagels, croissants, and muffins), yogurt parfaits, oatmeal and breakfast sandwiches. Their more unique items are loved by all, including several vegan-friendly items. The “Aliens Left a Burrito in the Middle East” burrito may be the most popular; it has couscous, beans, cheese, hummus, spinach, avocado, red bell pepper, and ranch. There is a nice covered patio that has a lattice on the west side for pleasant outdoor drinking and a drive through is available for quick stops.

Desert Wind roasts their own beans in small batches and is proud of their craft. These guys care about their coffee. Cafe Darak sets itself apart by its quirky interior. There is a Volkswagen Bus tent and plenty of mismatched antique furniture. Unlike most coffee shops, this cafe is open from 2pm-2am and caters to late-night caffeine runs and students studying last minute. The dining/drinking space is fairly small, making it cramped when busy.
Cafe Darak has the usual assortment of coffees. They also have a rotating menu of drinks and treats. While this keeps the menu fresh and gives you something to look forward to, the quality of the food and drinks can be inconsistent. If you need a great cup near the airport, Pour has you covered. This independent coffee shop has the standard coffees, teas, and mixed drinks as well as a health-oriented, albeit small, menu of food. Pour’s location away from high traffic shopping areas means it is not likely on your way to anywhere. It also means that this gem usually has room for you to sit down and enjoy the coffee and Wi-Fi without much disturbance.
Pour keeps the menu small and simple, though the offerings do change frequently. People love the knowledgeable staff and their ability to customize their recommendations based on your personal needs and wants. The light and open interior design is inviting and good for working and studying. The art on the walls is fun and colorful, lending a casual vibe to the shop. There aren’t many great coffee options near Sunset Park, but Pour would be a winner no matter the location.

Sambalatte is the closest thing to a chain on this list – they have three locations. They are focused on small batches of ethical and sustainable coffees. These shops have Steampunk coffee brewers, a siphon brewer at the forefront of coffee brewing technology. The menu is quite diverse and changes frequently.
Of all the shops on this list, Sambalatte may be the most accessible.The multiple locations make it easy to find one of these high end coffee shops, though the experience is different at each location. Overall, a stop at one of these shops is deserved.

Avery’s is another family-owned local roaster. They are very accessible and love their business and product. You can go there for your coffee or take some beans home to make your own. They also have a subscription service that will send you different varieties every month.This shop is in the corner of a large shopping center and can be missed if you are not looking for it. The shop itself is not very big. When it is busy, the line can stretch toward the bathrooms. There are books and some local art on the walls. It is cozy and friendly, but not spacious.
Avery’s has a pretty standard variety of coffees and drinks. They do a number of preparations, including nitro brews. Regulars love that the owners and staff are enthusiasts and love to talk shop. As far as food, they have the standard fare of wraps, sandwiches, pastries and the like. You can eat there, but the menu is not anything special or unique.
