Not many tourist-centric restaurants boast a hefty selection of vegan choices, so it’s quite a miracle that New York Chinese Restaurant has that and even a goodly selection of mock meat dishes. The General Tso’s, Sweet and Sour Pork and Sweet and Sour soup are all standouts. Rice must be ordered separately, and there have been reports of slow service and a default gratuity added to the final bill, so just keep that in mind.

Simple, fresh and fast: these are three descriptors of Freshii, a franchise that gives vegans and vegetarians plenty of choice when it comes to creating a meal. Choose from wraps, bowls or burritos, then choose your base protein, toppings and sauce. We loved the falafel bowl with quinoa, avocado, mushrooms, red bell peppers and tomatoes. They also have fresh smoothies and bottled juices to complement your veggie meal.

Dine from a selection of German, Austrian, Czech and Hungarian dishes. Much of the ingredients used are organic and some of the vegetables are even sourced from the owner’s own garden. Hungarian Vegetarian Goulash, house-made sourdough rye garlic bread and Czech dumplings are a few of their top-rated dishes, and a rotating menu of vegan desserts are also on hand. Dishes range from around $29-33 Canadian per entree, so enjoy that dough before you spend it!
